Career today are used to represent the job opportunities that a company offers. But is this the meaning of Careers? Does it limit to only the job one takes up and the work that is done as part of it? Shouldn’t it also have the aspect of careers - what about my dream. The dream for which I want to realize - may be a childhood dream, may be at a later stage. Where did we miss the aspect of interest, hobbies, and passions?
It is sad that these should be missed any mention when the "career" tabs are put out on the navigation bar of the companies in such a way that is most noticeable to the visitors of the website? However there is another message that comes in - the companies are not able to retain their talent (yes we are talents - multipotential beings). These companies too need to understand that there is more to retaining people to employees that just money. It is the aspirations of the employee that gets him/her to their company. When these aspirations are not met it is inevitable that the candidate would leave the company.
They leave not due to the pay package every time - but due to the many factors; their team, the immediate supervisor, the growth opportunity, attitude and much more. This challenge of careers is found equally hard to solve for both the individual and the corporate alike.
